Homemade Crunchwrap Supreme

Homemade Crunchwrap Supreme

Homemade Crunchwrap Supreme is what happens when a drive-thru craving hits on a night nobody wants to leave the house. Seasoned beef, warm nacho cheese, a layer of crunchy chips, cool lettuce and tomato, all folded into a tortilla and grilled until the outside is golden and crisp.

The folding looks fancier than it is. You pile everything in the center, fold the edges in around it like you are wrapping a little package, and press it seam-side down in a hot skillet. Thirty seconds later it seals itself shut and holds together perfectly.

My favorite part is that it is completely yours to play with. Swap in shredded chicken, add black beans, go heavy on the sour cream, skip the tomatoes. We make these on busy weeknights and everyone builds their own, which means no complaints at the table.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup water
  • as needed nacho cheese sauce
  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups Doritos or tortilla chips
  • 2 cups fresh lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • as needed butter or oil
  • to taste salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it apart as it cooks, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Add taco seasoning and water to the beef, stirring well. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is fragrant and coats the beef well.
  3. Lay one large flour tortilla flat on a cutting board. In the center, layer nacho cheese sauce, seasoned beef, cheddar, crushed Doritos, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream.
  4. Fold the tortilla like an envelope: fold the left side over the filling, then the right side, then fold up the bottom to create a square shape.
  5. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with butter or oil. Place the Crunchwrap seam-side down in the hot skillet.
  6. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden and crispy. Carefully flip and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes until golden.
  7. Transfer to a plate and serve hot. The cheese will continue to melt from residual heat.

Notes

Don’t overfill or they’ll be hard to seal. Pan-fry in butter for extra crispiness.
